Where does this come from?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics, a unit of the US government, classifies all workers into some 800-odd occupational categories. We paid a team of freelancers to get their view on what type of degree a holder of each type of job would likely have majored in. For pairs which had a high degree of consensus, we created a link between the degree and the job.
From this, we calculated the average salary for Math degrees and converted it into a lifetime value. We then compared it against other degrees at the same level of schooling (such as online associate math degrees), so that you can make informed educational and employment decisions.
What Can a Math Student Expect to Learn?
When learning math, what you can expect to learn depends on the specific field of math you choose. If you enter theoretical mathematics, you will learn how to advance mathematical knowledge through the development of novel principles and through the ability to recognize new relationships between existing mathematical principles. You will typically be employed as faculty in universities and will spend your time teaching and conducting research.
If you enter applied mathematics, you will learn to use a variety of techniques and theories, such as computational models and mathematical modeling to create and solve a variety of problems across engineering, government, business, physical, life, and social science settings. If you are interested in becoming a primary or a secondary school mathematics teacher, you will not need more than a bachelor’s degree in many states as long as you meet the certification requirements of the state in which you intend to work. Similarly, if you plan to work for the federal government, you may not need more than a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field to find suitable employment. However, if you plan to work in private industry, you will typically need a doctoral degree (a Ph.D) to be eligible for employment.

Famous Students of Math
A number of different figures throughout history have become famous, popular, or well known for their study of and contributions to mathematics.

He is also regarded as the most important number theoretician in all of history.
Archimedes is widely acknowledged to be the most prominent of the ancient mathematicians. His work led to advances in algebra, analysis, and number theory, but today he is most famous for the numerous theorems he created in relation to solid and planar geometry. His methods were anticipatory to both differential and integral calculus. He also discovered formulas that accounted for both the surface area and volumes of spheres.
Leonhard Euler is also considered to be one of the most influential mathematicians in history. Many of this notations and methods in mathematics are still being used today; he was also the most prolific mathematician known to history.
