Peguy Alerte is an IT professional who specializes in computer hardware, software installation, and desktop support. In addition an Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems and Bachelor of Science in Network and Communication Management, Alerte holds a graduate certification in IT administration from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Currently, he works as a desktop support specialist at Comp-U-Type Services, LLC.

Why did you choose to major in IT administration?

That is where my passion, desire, and interest has resided through the years.

What did you like/dislike about majoring in IT administration?

I liked obtaining the ability to control and restrict accessibly to the network resources for individual users. I disliked dealing with the users whom change their password and persisted on denying that such an action was performed.

How has your major impacted your career or influenced your career path?

My major has not influence my career much at all; I am still receiving only technician or desktop support positions.

What knowledge/skills did you obtain from majoring in IT administration that you put to use in your current position?

I put to use my managerial skills, which also provided me with Cisco technology procedures.

What advice would you give to students thinking about majoring in IT administration?

I would advise them to do their research and view the job market place; there is a lot of outsourcing more now than ever.
